The Future of Gene Editing Panel
January 26 2017
The emergence of CRISPR as a catalyst for gene editing has hurled open a door to new advances in biotechnology and medicine. While the scientific community has been debating and applying CRISPR in various lab settings, the transition to real-world applications is imminent, taking place with no clear policy on guidelines or even potential restrictions.
What is Our Goal?
"The Future of Gene Editing" will be a multi-disciplinary panel discussion on policy considerations for gene editing implementation, with emphasis on long term societal implications -- 10, 20 or even 30 years into the future. It will build upon discussions started by the National Academy of Sciences, with the aim to:
Delve into the long-term considerations of genetic engineering -- where it is going, the challenges it will face, and the role of society as a whole in its development and regulation.
Bring some of the most relevant voices in the field to New York City.
Provide the local academic, industry, and policy community with an opportunity to actively participate in the discussion.
